Fire Weather Warning
...Red flag warning in effect from noon today to 5 PM EDT this afternoon... The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a red flag warning...which is in effect from noon today to 5 PM EDT this afternoon. This warning covers most of southern and central New Jersey...even along the shore...and also includes Philadelphia of far southeastern Pennsylvania. The dry spell of the past 10 days has set the stage for an increased risk of fire danger. Today...gusty west winds to 30 mph will combine with humidity below 30 percent and the dry spell of the past 10 days to increase the rate of rapid fire spread in the very dry fine fuels. The combination of strongest winds and lowest relative humidity should occur between 2 PM and 5 PM. Gusty winds and low humidity will also occur elsewhere in eastern Pennsylvania...Delaware and marylands Eastern Shore. This warning may need to be expanded into portions of those states during the midday hours. Winds will diminish rapidly around 6 PM today. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now...or will shortly. A combination of strong winds...low relative humidity...and warm temperatures will create explosive fire growth potential.
